Aberdeen City Council has officially re-opened Duthie Park following a £5.2m restoration including the reinstatement of many of the parks original Victorian features.

This has included refurbishment of ponds and paths together with new look railings, gates and fountains throughout the 44 acre park.

Originally opened back in 1883 the park landscaping work includes restoration of a 1920s rockery as well as restoration of the setting of various monuments.

Colin McLean, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in Scotland, said: "It is at this time of year especially that people really start to appreciate our parks. Step through the gates of Duthie Park and you are suddenly away from the noise and bustle of the town and into a tranquil green place.

"This Aberdeen treasure has always been popular and with even better facilities and beautifully restored Victorian features, thousands of people of all ages will enjoy it even more.”
